About

I am a Visually Impaired writer and traveller. The SighPress website is where I present some of my creative output and where I blog about my ongoing projects. I started blogging in 2010 – you can find out more about my online presence by going to the LINKS Page.

I was registered blind in 1997 with a degenerative condition that kills off the optic nerve (the route for visual images to the brain) and was told that I probably wouldn’t go totally blind. Personally, I don’t like the word ‘blind’ – I think it is reductive and less than helpful (unless you have no vision at all). I have  lost most of my vision and now need a white cane to get about safely – I can still see part of the picture (given good conditions and enough time) and for that I am grateful, but it is like looking through a letterbox at a cracked mirror.

I have lived and studied in Cyprus, England and Scotland (where I currently live). After dropping out of college I went on to work as an Electronics Technician and Engineer, Video Television Producer, Metrologist, and Manufacturing Engineer. I’ve spent the last few  years travelling and learning – visiting over 40 countries around the world, and gaining a first class BA (Hons)  in English Literature and an MA in Creative Writing (focused on Contemporary Poetry and Creative Non Fiction) to add to my technical qualifications.

A sigh can be a non-verbal expression of the indescribable or a sign, in and of itself (a sign of contentment, alienation, frustration or just plain old mystification) … I hope my content will make you sigh … but there is a further resonance for me, viz, the island of Cyprus was the birth place of the creator, and curator, of this web space.
